Frequently asked questions
- 01Most authors assume they need a proofread, but in reality, many manuscripts require deeper structural or line-level refinement first. If your story feels “close but not quite there,” that usually indicates developmental or line editing. I review each manuscript carefully and recommend the level of editing that will serve your goals — not just what’s fastest.
- 02Developmental editing focuses on structure, clarity, pacing, and big-picture storytelling. Line editing refines flow, tone, sentence strength, and consistency. Proofreading corrects grammar, punctuation, and minor mechanical errors after the manuscript is fully polished. Each level builds on the one before it. Skipping foundational editing often leads to frustration later.
- 03Your manuscript doesn’t need to be perfect — but it should be complete. I recommend finishing your draft, stepping away briefly, and doing one self-revision before submitting. Editing works best when the author has already done their personal pass.
- 04Absolutely. Many of my clients are publishing for the first time. My role is not only to refine your manuscript but also to guide you through the publishing process with clarity and confidence. I meet authors where they are — and elevate the work from there.
- 05No. I strengthen your voice — I do not replace it. My goal is to refine what is already there and help your writing communicate at its highest potential while still sounding like you.
- 06The rhythm of editing dances to the tune of your manuscript’s length and the depth of refinement it craves. Typically, full-length manuscripts are polished within 2–4 weeks. Once we delve into your word count and scope, we’ll craft a detailed timeline tailored just for you.
- 07I work across all genres, including memoir, nonfiction, fiction, science fiction, cookbooks, children’s books, personal development, personal finance, faith-based works, and transformational storytelling, supporting authors across a wide range of subjects and audiences.

- 12AI tools can identify surface-level grammar issues, but they cannot evaluate narrative flow, emotional consistency, structural integrity, or audience impact. Professional editing is strategic, not mechanical.

- 14That’s completely natural. Memoir and personal writing require trust. My role is not to judge your story — it is to honor it and help you present it with strength, clarity, and integrity.
- 15No. At this time, I do not offer personal phone or video calls. All communication is conducted through written messages within the platform. This approach ensures that every instruction, edit request, and piece of feedback is clearly documented and easy for both the author and editor to reference throughout the project. Written communication also helps prevent misunderstandings, keeps the workflow organized, and allows me to focus fully on the manuscript itself. Over the years, I have found that this method creates the most efficient and professional editing process. Authors receive thoughtful, detailed responses, and all guidance related to their manuscript remains recorded in one place for future reference. If you have questions, need clarification, or would like to discuss your manuscript in detail, you are welcome to send a message. I am happy to respond and provide guidance through the messaging system. Messages are typically answered within 24–48 hours.
